Ebb and Flow

February 27 – March 23, 2014

“In my studio I keep a small collection of stones that I have gathered over the years. My favourite is a dark grey rectangular stone that has many intricate ivory lines wrapping around it, as if it was thread spun protectively around a spindle. Wondering what metamorphic forces formed this rock and its evolution began the inspiration of this body of work. I also pictured the ebb and flow of the tide, the continual back and forth of the waves slowly altering the shoreline over time. I imagined the stone as my anchor steadying myself against the current as I too evolve and change. I continue to be intrigued by patterns, architecture and tactile nature of forms. The work in the show includes sculptural elements, etched metal pieces, and prints.” – Loree Ovens
